"Have you been playing Talon bingo again?"
“Oh, no” Tegan playfully replied. “I’ve been living it.”
"Are you telling me you remember most of last night?"
“Well…” Her head swayed from side to side as the ornery centers of her brain kicked into full gear. “Remember enough of it, anyway.”
"You know I had fun. I had so much fun I almost didn't get out of bed this morning."
There was no stifling the giggles from that. So she just kept them quieter than her body wanted. “I did too. I haven’t had a night like that since—“
With a sudden shift in her expression, Tegan’s sentence cut off, as did her smile. After looking to Zi again, Tegan restored her cheeriness and lost the thought.
"What was your favorite bit?"
“Ohhh…” Tegan leaned back against the console railing, and allowed her mind to crank away at the answer. “I was really looking forward to some dancing, but I really can’t remember much about it. I remember someone suggesting it. And the movement. But…” It was so fuzzy. By the point she was just happily going along with the rhythm of the night.
“Do you remember talking? “Tegan looked at the sapphire being ground away rather than at Zi. “Right before the dancing?”
As the yellow alert disappeared, Tegan let out an exhale of breath. That was a pleasant turn of events. Nothing happened at all. The Bridge crew must have just been playing games up there. Regardless, work could commence unimpeded.
"Looks like we have a winner."
“Perfect!”
"Want to watch us complete the jigsaw?"
Acting on cue, Tegan slid over the components readying themselves for the big moment. A tingling sensation began inside her. She’d had the same sensation so many times. It was the moment when she saw the completion of a project, but it was not yet complete—when the mystery was solved and the puzzle unraveled, and all that was left was filling in the pieces.
Oh, how she loved that feeling.
