"I would like that though I wonder if perhaps it would be more appropriate vice versa? That maybe sounded a lot better in my head."
So maybe he was asking her out then. Interesting.
"Whichever you prefer," she said, smiling warmly. "Or if it makes you feel more comfortable we could always go out and grab something to eat."
Just when she was settling nicely into the conversation, her least favourite security officer decided to assert his presence on sickbay.
"I wanted to speak to you before my departure."
He was leaving? That was probably the best news she'd had all day.
As Zak spoke to Diran, Tegan leant over to Zi and whispered in her ear.
“Saw you talking to him,” Tegan continued in a whisper while eyeing Diran. “He’s cute.”
Zi grinned.
"He is," she replied, in a mysterious murmur.
"Lieutenant, I understand your previous grievances with my enacting of protocol but I would like to leave the ship without," He paused to search for the right word or phrase. "'Bad blood' between us."
She fought the urge to raise an eyebrow at Zak's words. He'd obviously been a friend of Diran's, and she didn't want to say or do anything that might upset him, so she'd just have to take the moral highground for once.
"Know your previous actions with Ensign Cross in Lounge B in March of 2408 do not make me think any less of you. You are a very capable officer and engineer and I wish you well."
Surreal didn't begin to cover it. She shook the proferred hand politely and decided that discretion would be the better part of valour in this case. She suspected the 'incident' was going to come up in conversation with Diran at an upcoming dinner date.
"Thanks," she said, simply. She couldn't ring herself to return the compliment, so she decided to stick with something a bit more generic. "I hope your next assignment goes well."
"And if you wish, I can pass on any message you might have for Ensign Cross as he and I will be on the same transport."
Ha.
"That won't be necessary, but thank you." If she had anything she wanted to say to Adam Cross she'd say it in person, though she suspected that bridge had been crossed and burnt a long time ago.
Thankfully she was saved from further awkwardness by the arrival of Bernard into the conversation.
"Excuse the interruption, Lieutenant Button."
He looked exhausted, and Ziana felt immediately sorry for him as she waved her hands in a sort of 'no problem' kind of a gesture.
“I don’t understand.”
Her room mate sounded distressed of a different kind, but Ziana didn't have a chance to figure out why as Tegan threw the PADD onto the floor and stormed out of the room.
Well.
That was going to be an interesting conversation later, she was sure.
"Is the replicator ready to produce a meal? Or maybe two?"
The subtext of the doctor's question was clear, and Ziana smiled at him gently as she nodded.
"Sure," she said, before turning back to Diran. "Send me a message later and we'll arrange something, ok?" She looked back at Bernard. "Now what do you fancy?"
End Ziana
