“Not much, unfortunately.”
Bernard gave a stereotypical doctor's hmph but said nothing as Jeven tried to continue.
//"Captain Monroe has also disappeared, Commander. We've received word from the science department, apparently they have a theory concerning the energy spikes and...alternate universes. You might want to get up here, sir. I'd suggest using the transporters."//
“Acknowledged, Commander, I will be there momentarily.”
If he were being honest, Bernard was still very much tired of events turning into cascade failures, but there wasn't the time to go on about it now, maybe later over a steaming cup of rooibos.
“It looks like your observation was spot on. Keep me informed on the situation down here…especially with our ‘guest’.”
"I will as I am able, Commander." He was painfully aware that his time here was limited in a much more unusual way than before.
“Good luck, Doctor.”
Bernard didn't believe in luck but for today he would gladly accept the idea that maybe things could turn around and start going right for a change. He acknowledged the man with a nod just as he vanished in thin blue light.
"I know this is difficult, Ensign," the doctor said approaching the nurse carefully, "however we are in an emergent situation." If there was a reason to grieve they would have to find a time for it later. He didn't need to explain that, or recite their job description to Grace. He began to turn away but stopped himself quickly, almost jarringly. "I maintain high expectations for you, Ensign, and you are not disappointing me."
Normally he didn't feel the need to say such things but he had never been a CMO before now.
He looked around the room again, taking a visual tally of who was left, the numbers being depressingly smaller than before. It was a terrible feeling, one he pocketed as he sat down by the computer again and began sending data off to whomever was left in the science labs.
After a brief chat with the ship's computer, Bernard identified the capable bodies left in the lab and began sending Sick Bay's findings to them.
"Lieutenant Commander Osler-Drew to Lieutenant Heatherton. I have sent a package of medical scans to a secure computer which, I hope, may prove useful to you and your team. I also have Ensign Shaw with us who had some insight into what is happening however," Bernard cleared his throat, "data is limited. We will do our best to cooperate with your needs."
Luck hadn't shown up yet, so like everyone else in the infirmary, Bernard continued to work.
