"Look," Ephiny said, holding a hand out to stop Robert from moving forward and out of the shuttle. "Let me do the talking." She stepped down the ramp, her booted feet clanging on the metal as she went, and headed straight to a portly Bajoran who was sweating profusely. The two of them engaged in a rather animated discussion until a large sum of latinum was passed hand to hand. Ephiny wiped her brow with the back of her hand. "Two verdanis, a batos, and supplies. He wanted to know where we were going. I asked him how his two daughters were doing. He stopped asking."
She lead him to the stables where the strange beasts were being readied. "I hope you can ride," she smirked at Robert. "It's the best way to get through the canyons." No one transported to this area of Bajor. There was rumor that the Scepter of the Prophets had been hidden in those deep chasms, though many expeditions failed to turn up anything to bring truth to that myth. Ephiny doubted the map she possessed lead to that item, though she suspected the search for it was one of the secret reasons for mining in the area.
Quickly checking the supplies, she secured them onto the back of the batos. "I could never get used to their smell," she said, wrinkling her nose. "It's...kind of like a cross between burned bacon and apricots." Swinging a leg up onto her verdanis, she patted it on its dusty hide and attached the lead of the pack animal to the saddle.
