"Disguise it's signature? Really? You act like no one's going to smell this thing."
"Keep it up, Lieutenant, and you're on a one-way trip to the backside of my boot." As he said that, he realized he was only wearing one of them. "Hold that thought," he said. Reentering the ship, he searched for where he had tossed the soiled boot and quickly grabbed it. Outside, he pulled a device out of his pocket and pressed several buttons. As he pulled on his boot, the sleek, silver ship vanished from view. "Even if they smell it, they still can't see it." He glanced at Braddock. "Don't get your knickers in a knot. It's not an illegal cloak, just a holographic trick. The real star is the sensor net that renders it invisible to any prying scanners." He shrugged. "It's an energy hog, though. I can't use it while we're flying. I'll figure that part out someday."
Tahp tugged at his shirt.
"Okay, let's get moving." He followed close behind the Etimonian, all the while watching for trouble. This was one of the areas of Tazer's expertise. His eyes were constantly in motion, his hearing finely tuned to any odd sound, and his hand at the ready to blast anything to smithereens. After a short trip, Tazer covered his nose with his hand. "What is that smell?" Tahp waved him to follow. A dark brown pool of viscous matter, with thousands of insects floating above it, was soon evident as the group climbed a small rise. "The eggs will be dead," Tazer said. Shaking her head, Tahp tugged on his shirt and pointed to the North.
Fortunately for all, the journey was a non-violent one and after fifteen minutes of easy travel Tahp gestured at a huge formation consisting of mound after mound of boulders. As they approached the natural structure, Tahp slipped behind a large maroon bush next to the steep stone wall.
"Nice," Tazer said. Looking over his shoulder to make sure no one had appeared since the last time he checked, he wedged himself behind the bush and found a small fissure in the rock. It was a tight squeeze, but he managed. The tunnel was short and soon they were in a small alcove which opened up to an amber pool. She indicated that they were to stay put.
Minutes later, she returned with an old Etimonian in tow. "Thank you," he said to the group. "Tahp is very important to us." He made a gesture, an abomination of the traditional greeting, with a deformed hand, then waved it at the opening. "Follow me." The group stepped into a small natural amphitheater.
"What th' hell?" Tazer stared. Crude homes had been carved out of the rocks and every person he saw-
