"Okay. What are you expecting from me, Ensign? Alert security. There is nothing we can do for them here. It is probably safer for them to be off the ship right now."
Grace's immediate reaction was one of surprise. She hadn't expected Bernard's answer, but she couldn't deny the logic in the CMO's thinking. This wasn't something that he could solve, especially in the midst of the crisis they were currently in. Their direct duty was to the well-being of officers present. The ones that they could physically help.
"Yes, sir," Grace replied meekly. As she took hold of the PADD. Her hands slowly lowered as she digested his words. He hadn't scolded her, but merely stated a matter of fact.
"If you need a break, take a couple minutes in my office."
"That... won't be necessary, Doctor," Grace replied. Her hands moved across the PADD as she prepared to send a memo to security as Doctor Osler-Drew had suggested.
“Doctor, I’m so sorry about Dr. Williams. How can I help?”
Grace's eyes turned to look upon Lt. Commander Stavish. She couldn't help but feel a tad bit smaller in the moment. The Chief Counselor was even present in the moment, offering to lend a hand, and what was Grace doing? Clearly not her job. It helped to remind her of just how green she was. Part of her wondered if it had always been an ever-present flaw of character that Doctor Ericson had simply tolerated. If it were, then this was just another reminder that things were different now.
//"This is the Captain....//
Hearing his voice, Grace felt an unexpected wave of calm wash over her. It seemed that Kealan was all right after all. She tried to convince herself that hadn't been worried, and that there were plenty of duties before her to keep herself occupied. Still, the sound of his voice was reassuring if not the words."
As she focused on what he was saying, she found it hard to believe. How could Starfleet turn on their own. She thought of all her friends, both aboard this ship and outside of it. The only comfort that she found was when he announced that their non-human crew members were on board. Though... where? Captain Monroe had said they were masked from the sensors for their safety. Did that mean that they had actual enemies aboard this ship?
Grace's eyes scanned Sickbay, and she attempted to determine if there was anyone that she actually suspected. She couldn't fathom anyone one stooping to such levels.
//"I'm counting on all of you to believe. Monroe out." //
Grace's eyes were wide with a mix of panic and concern. It seemed there was a live contagion aboard the ship, given the fact that they were quarantined. Then, there was the matter of the contagion itself. What was the source of exposure? The method of transmission? Had there been any victims that had succumbed to the contagion? And were they suppose to observe or engage in any further quarantine protocols? Her eyes fell upon Doctor Osler-Drew after hearing all of Monroe's words. "Orders, sir?"
