"It should work."
Alyssa gave the Trill a nod of appreciation. She was grateful that he had listen to her suggestion, and left him to his business. she quickly turned back to her console to double check sensor readings. With all the chaos in the shuttle, someone need to make sure they weren't about to be fired at.
"Jenison, secure our guest."
Alyssa looked back towards Commander Tyne, and over to the Salorri. It was a valid order, but with Ensign Diran occupied, it would leave her console unattended to. Alyssa didn't trust any of the rescued crew-members to be fully in control of their faculties. After all, they had just been rescued from a race of mind-controlling aliens.
Alyssa quickly looked over to the helm, and noticed the Cardassian-Bajoran hybrid was still manning her console. "Ensign," she called out," I'm transferring basic tactical control to your console while I'm away. Keep an eye out for anything suspicious."
Commander Tyne noted Alyssa's precaution and gave her an affirmative nod. "And Lieutenant," he started, causing Alyssa to pause. "Get the enhancers set up just in case we need them.
"Yes, sir,"Alyssa replied. She secured her console, and drew her phaser. Without hesitation, she herded the Salorri towards the back of the shuttle. With the absence of the brig, Alyssa choose to placed him on the a chair that leaned against the bulkhead, and erected semi-circular forcefield around it. Fortunately, the transport enhancers had been stocked in the same compartment, so locating them had been convenient.
"You are making a mistake," The Salorri said, as he stood up from the chair Alyssa had place him in. Alyssa placed the transport enhancers on the floor, and looked towards the Salorri.
"I know I'm not an engineer, but it's not that hard to set these up."
"I'm not talking about those," the Salorri replied, as he pointed towards the enhancers. "I'm talking about rescuing your crew. It's dangerous and foolish."
Alyssa paused for a moment, as she considered whether or not she should even talk to the Salorri. Her training, however, taught her not to ignore any possibility. "And why is that?"
"You'll never be able to get your crew up quickly enough," The Salorri replied, with an interesting mix of sincere concern and a manipulative tone. "Once the Salorri discover that they are losing their slaves they will order them to turn on all of you."
Alyssa couldn't help but understand the concern, but she didn't agree. "We are about to remove that ability, so you don't need to worry."
"No," The Salorri stepped closer to the forecfield. "You are about to try, and remove that ability. Even still, you are running of time before the Salorri discover what is happening. Even if you are able to stop them from using their manipulative abilities, what makes you think that their control won't immediately break."
Alyssa stepped closer to the forcefield as well, crossed her arms. "We'll just have to take our chances, won't be?"
The Salorri shook his head. "You are all fools."
"And you just want to save your own skin. We don't leave our own behind. If we take "foolish" risks to see that policy through, so be it." Alyssa uncrossed her arms, and turned back towards the enhancers. "Now...if you don't mind, I have to get back to work."
As Alyssa continued to set up the enhancers, she couldn't help but mull over the Salorri's words. She found his willingness to leave behind their crew detestable, but his points had a validity to them. If they didn't move quickly, they could find themselves facing off against their own crew. That was not something Alyssa looked forward to.
