"What's going on."
Hunter pointed at the screen again. Tyne leaned over just as Emmarie said the one word Hunter couldn't voice.
"Borg."
He shivered as if someone had walked over his grave. That was all it took to get him back on track. The mere idea of the Borg in the Gamma Quadrant was enough for him to get back to work.
"I... I don't really know what I'm looking for to find Borg lifesigns."
Fingers flying over the console, he ran the clear data they had been able to obtain earlier through several algorithms. "There would be traces of their neural transceivers or even the energy signatures of the generators for their personal force fields. I don't see any of that." He began to relax the more he searched.
"Drones are influenced by the Salorri... what would their commands do to the Borg hive mind? What if the whole Collective were motivated to come here?"
"Perhaps they all killed themselves, like they do when they are faulty. I would think that a strange thought sent into the Collective would be enough for immediate termination, rather than infecting the Hive. I'm sure they learned a lesson years ago."
Tyne frowned. "Be that as it may, when this is all done, I want a thorough scan of the planet, just to be sure."
Hunter nodded. "You don't have to tell me twice."
The Commander walked over to the EMH. "Report."
Turning to face Tyne, the holographic man gestured toward Jack. "Either you have a faulty medic, or a faulty tricorder. Either way, it's a good thing you summoned me."
Not sure what to make of the remark, he tilted his head to Jack. "Grab another tricorder and get to work on the crew. There's no need for you to be following him around."
The EMH looked rather put-out for a moment and Tyne wondered just what they were thinking when they made this program. Someone, somewhere, thought to make the EMH into a testy bald guy. Why not someone likeable, like Vincent Kane? Shaking his head, he looked past the hologram to M'Khol. "Hang in there, Commander. We'll get you home safe."
"Please remain still," the medical program said to the Klingon. He gave him a hypospray tailored to Klingon physiology which would make him relax and dull the pain. "You should be in surgery, but I will mend what I can until then." With M'Khol still sitting upright against the bulkhead, the EMH got to work. "Fortunately, the one lung was already collapsed before you tried to drown, so there is very little sea water in it." He patted M'Khol on the shoulder.
With Tyne gone, Hunter took the opportunity to look at Emmarie. Not caring whether Kathryn heard, since his relationship with the Orion was already common gossip, he looked her over before asking, "are you okay?" He hadn't heard from her since the shocking news in the science lab. In fact, it seemed as if everyone on the ship, except Ziana, had been avoiding talking to him.
