“If we could find a weapon, like our phasers, it would be our best chance.”
It was amazing how easily they would have been able to get out of the situation if they had had their weapons. The transparency of their enclosure taunted them, pushing home the fact that they relied heavily on phasers and such to rescue them. As the ceiling slid back to produce the new barrier, Victor added his shout to that coming from Richards at the sight of the Klingon attempting escape and his cringe mirrored that of the others at her fall. It had been a valiant effort, one Victor had tried himself, but both had ultimately failed.
Looking past the fallen woman, Victor watched the young duo two cells down. After several tense moments, they settled in next to each other, eventually boring the onlookers who moved back to the more crowded cell, probably hoping to see blood from the injured. "Parasites," Victor spat.
"It's going to happen again, and soon."
Jonathan looked to him for confirmation and Victor nodded. "That, or they'll try something to get those two going," he said, gesturing toward the cell containing the recently paired crew. Secretly, he was glad the Klingon was down. Historically, she probably would have been paired with himself and that was not a scene he wanted to endure. Already, just the sight of a Klingon grated on his nerves, and he was not about to enjoy close quarters with one again.
"Any idea how long they'll leave her before checking on her? They will check on her, right?"
"Once the crowd tires of seeing her lying there, they will. Right now, they're probably trying to judge her condition based on the video feed." There was an odd sound from above. "Step back from the bowl," Victor said. "They're pretty impatient with us not eating." He grinned at Braddock. "You just effectively looked at your food and turned away from it." A loud buzzing could be heard and suddenly the metal bowl rose up rapidly, not spilling a drop, and stuck to the ceiling. Interestingly enough, Jonathan's right arm also rose upwards, but the XO's weight kept him from rising off the ground. "Something we need to know, Richards," Victor asked. Slowly, the bowl moved across the ceiling, and Jon's hand followed the direction, until the bowl disappeared through a small panel that had opened to receive it, only to shut quickly after it passed. The sound above ceased, and Jon's hand fell back by his side.
However, several seconds later, the sound returned and Jonathan's hand rose again, dragging him to the window in front of the aliens, where his arm waved back and forth, effectively saying hi to those outside.
Victor hurried over and picked up his bowl before the aliens could even think about taking his away. Sliding his fingers into the goop, he scooped the viscous slop into his mouth. "It's full of protein," he said after swallowing. "If you don't eat, you'll get weak."
