"Red alert!" Jon shouted as soon as he saw the lethal pulses of energy flying towards them but he feared that the call might been too late, for any one of them. The attack came completely out of no where and Jon soon found himself playing magical chairs, except it was only one chair he kept bobbing up and down on.
Jon ignored Kealan's look, this was no time that Jon wanted to be right. Even with just the first few salvos, Jon's mini-console was flashing and sliding through the names of systems and decks damaged already. "We've got damage reports coming in from all decks!" He announced, his fingers moving quick to filter through to find some of the more significant systems. Their downed internal comms was announced by someone else, and Jon mentally cursed. They needed a status report from engineering as soon as possible, the supposed weapon device might not take kindly to a suddenly hostile atmosphere.
The news just got worse, as Henri identified the enemy weaponry as something that was thought to be impossible but obviously, it was a reality, and not a pleasant one. He listened to Henri's follow-up intently, amazed and thankful for speedy suggestion that followed, albeit a dangerous one.
"Ordinarily I would suggest that be a last resort," Jon said towards Kealan, "But if we wait too long, we may lose the means to accomplish it all together." It was a high-risk unknown-reward situation, and that was never a good thing. It was possible that the rebounded energy might not even damage their ship, or even hit.
The suggestion that followed however, carried even more risk with a high degree of no-reward. Jon shook his head towards Robin, "Lieutenant, even if you were able to fly through unscathed, they will still be shooting, both at us and the asteroids which could cause further debri and damage, and risk the shuttle." He explained, hoping that would be the last of what Jon considered to be a bad suggestion, often times he was open minded to such things but in this case he felt there were just too many variables 'ifs' involved.
"And may I remind you that the ship came from that field, it's possible there might be other similar vessels waiting." In fact, the entire asteroid field could be one big fleet though considering the enemy vessel was what was responsible for those odd readings, it seemed highly unlikely they wouldn't detect the same information for the rest of the field.
Another massive blow shook the ship and sparks flew like a fountain from Jon's console and he barely covered his head in time with his hands and arms. He felt the heat but it wasn't enough to burn through his uniform, only singe it. Lowering his arms he looked to Kealan.
"It's clear that they aren't in a talking mood but if we were to beam the device outside the Talon, it might provide an opportunity for negotiation." He suggested.
"Captain, internal comms are back up,"
Jon didn't waste any time, he tapped his commbadge. "Bridge to Engineering, report."
