"30 minutes and 3 seconds."
Kealan smirked slightly at the additional three seconds, suspecting that Star was trying to extra technical. "Thank you, Mr. Star," he replied. The viewscreen's image changed dramatically with the computer generated overlay of energy patterns they couldn't normally see, providing Star with the detail he needed to slip into the stream. Those looking through normal windows would see the fast progress of stars, almost a white-out, more intense than what they saw during warp. On the main viewscreen, though, intense undulations of color dazzled the eye. Kealan also knew that there were reports of increased visual awareness of the energy levels from crew who had spent the most time in the gamma quadrant, especially those posted planetside. It was as if this section of space was triggering long dormant abilities in humanity, which would explain why so many of the species local to the quadrant possessed abilities similar to Etimonians.
//"Rok here. We're ready to go as soon as we get our fuel loaded in. It shouldn't be more than another 10 minutes,"//
Ten minutes of silence, most likely. In the meantime, Kealan slogged through the data overload of reports that never seemed to end until he heard the gasp of a Yeoman who had just arrived. Kealan turned in his chair to find the woman staring at the glowing hand of the Assistant Security Chief. Energy quadrant, indeed. "Continue your duties, Yeoman," Kealan said.
"Ye...yessir." She clutched her PADD to her chest as if it could protect her from whatever it was that was afflicting Jenison.
He knew the cause, a 'gift' from one of the thankful Ea'n'Drans, Enai, during the mission that almost cost Kealan his life. It was oddly comforting to see the soft glow, as it meant that Enai was experiencing a moment of happiness. While Kealan was sure it caused issues for Alyssa, he wondered how she would feel if Enai passed from this pane of existence before she did and the glow ceased forever. It was a sobering thought and he immediately felt a pang of guilt for sending Kinin away, knowing Robin was being forced to consider the possibility of never seeing her again. I shouldn've stayed in bed.
He pushed aside the reports of which he had been working and simply stared at the strands of color, waiting for what he hoped would be a positive report from Engineering.
