As the doors slid open, Captain Raal stepped through them and onto the deck of the Command Centre. He had to admit, it was the first time in a while that he actually felt better. He'd spent several hours in the Medical Bay. It wasn't until he had waken up that Doctor Kayden explained to him why he had been behaving so irrationally. He took a deep breath, thinking of the entire episode. A great bit of it he could recall, and yet he couldn't begin to fathom how half the things he had said would ever escape his lips.
"Captain on Deck!" called one of the officers on duty, and immediately everyone turned to face him. "At ease, and back to work, everyone," Raal said simply. As he ventured further into the center, the door behind him slid close. His assistant Lyras began to move towards him. In her hand was a PADD, yet he was more concerned by the skeptical eye that she was giving him. "Is there a problem, Lyras?"
"No, sir," replied the Vulcan. "I simply was unaware that you would be returning to duty so soon. Had I known, I would have...."
Raal shook his head. "Don't worry about it," said Raal. "Officially, I am cleared for duty. Although, Doctor Kayden strongly urged me not to overexert myself." That was certainly an oxymoron for any Captain. He likely wouldn't intend to do as much, but it seemed to be a frequent demand of the job. Raal, did, however want to do everything by the book. His eyes stared over at his chair. Part of him wondered if Desan had managed to settle into it, certain that it was just a bit larger than the ones that had previously been there. Instead he moved towards his office. "Come with me." Lyras moved behind him as ordered.
As the doors shut, Raal rounded his desk. It seemed that the replacement computer and the other damage to his office had already been made. "First order of business," said Raal, "is to express my sincerest apologies to Ambassador Drek." Upon hearing the woman's name, Lyras arched her eyebrow. "I do not believe the Ambassador will be interested in an apology from me, sir." Raal nodded. "I know, that's why I want you to send her that as well." He pointed towards a bottle on one of the shelves in his office. It was a bottle of Romulan Ale that he had come across many years ago. "It's was date bottled in 2241. I've been saving it for a special occasion, and considering what's transpired, this qualifies." Raal sighed. "Also make certain that the Ambassador knows that I would like to meet with her and express my apologies and regrets in person."
He waited a moment, giving Lyras a chance to take note of all he had said. "Beyond that, I need reports from all of the Department Chairs," said Raal. "I want to catch up on everything that I've missed. I see the Talon is docked. I take it Lieutenant Braddock as already allocated the appropriate resources to their repairs?"
"Yes, sir," Lyras reported. "Lieutenant Braddock has corresponded with Commanders Rok and Sur'Shess to allocate the proper resources and personnel to finish the repairs as quickly as possible."
Raal nodded. "Well, it sounds like Commander Kayden did a good job of keeping us afloat," he said softly. He knew that Commander Richards had been incapacitated for a while as well, but from what he'd learned, it seemed that things were slowly on their way back to normal... with a few exceptions. "Lyras, have Commander Kayden contact me at his earliest convenience. I'd like a status report on his investigation." He also wanted to officially make certain that Desan was satisified with the conditions to General Order 104 c. It was certainly something that Raal didn't want lingering over his head, especially if the man had reservations.
"Aye, sir," she replied. "If there's nothing else, I'll see to delivering your message to the Romulan Ambassador immediately."
Raal shook his head. He watched as Lyras made her way to the shelf to retrieve the bottle he had previously indicated. As she was on her way out, Raal called out to her. "Smile, Lyras."
His words seemed to cause the Vulcan to stop. Perplexed she turned to look at him. "I'm sorry, sir. I do not understand."
Raal stared back for a moment and then shrugged. "Neither do I," he said. "The concept of humor among humans... still confuses even me. That'll be all." He then watched as the Vulcan disappeared through his office doors, leaving him for now with his thoughts.
