"Thank you," Captain Merrin replied. "Please, call me Gwen."
"Very well... Gwen," said Raal obliging her request. He waited for her to move towards her seat and then went on to offer something to drink. It was simple hospitality, but as he assumed she would, she politely declined. It seemed Gwen was more interested in determining exactly what was going on, and that was a trait that Raal could respect in his fellow Captain.
"Well, it's not every day you get this kind of request. And I wouldn't be doing my job very well if I didn't fully understand a situation like this before I got my ship and my crew involved in it."
"Understood," said Raal nodding. "Honestly, I would respect nothing less. And I certainly wouldn't expect you to entertain any request without discerning the facts of the situation and the position it could potentially place your crew in." After a momentary pause, Raal reached for his PADD and brought up Lyras' personnel file.
"So, who is it who requires our hospitality? And why don't you feel they're more suited to your own accomodations?"
Raal reached across his desk and handed the PADD to Gwen. "This is Lyras, she's my assistant. However, Commander Kayden and I believe that Lyras has an agenda beyond that of her normal duties," Raal explained. He was certainly being rather liberal with his explanation. He took a deep breath. "It appears that over the past few weeks, Lyras may have been responsible for altering and omitting reports of Romulan activity. It is also likely that she used... a device to manipulate me personally." It wasn't exactly comfortable for Raal to admit that he had been compromised and by extension placed the people under his command in danger. "A manipulation that could potentially further deteriorate our relations with the Romulans as well as our diplomatic efforts here in the Gamma Quadrant."
He paused a moment in case Gwen wanted to ask a question, but continued shortly afterwards. "The reason we've asked for your assitance, Lyras has had weeks to become familiar with her way around SGE. She has even had the time and likely the opportunity to find and exploit any weaknesses in our holding area. Considering how obvious she's been, as Commander Kayden observed, it's as if she desires to be captured. And at this juncture, the last thing we'd like to do is accommodate her."
Captain Raal reclined against his chair. He looked between the Captain of the Peregrin and his Intelligence Officer. "So, Captain... Gwen," he paused a moment to correct himself. "Do you think you can help us?"
