"This field stays up come hell or high water. Nothing and no one goes in or out. Do what you can. Please don't ask again."
He knew better than to challenge her. Part of his job was to protect the authority inherent in the chain of command. He might have felt Captain Monroe was being excessive in his orders, but they didn’t give him the right to challenge that in front of the crew. It was something they would discuss in private, and nowhere else.
What troubled him was that doing so could jeopardize a member of the crew. Why would the Captain be so willing to risk that? What was it going through his head?
His cell mates took care of T’Rai, getting her off the floor and as comfortable as possible. He supposed the latter part was irrelevant for a Vulcan, but it was a nice gesture nonetheless. He moved over to address her again.
“Is there anything in his cell we can use to help?”
"A biologist and cultural scientist behind closed walls with the ACMO, and non-humans behind a force field that won't be let down even for medical equipment; it makes it seem like we might want to stay here."
“It would explain the Captain’s orders,” Jeven replied as his mind wandered in thought. “He needs to keep us out of sight, perhaps. Jenison ordered modifications to these forcefields. Perhaps they dampen our lifesigns.”
But how did that supposition fit into a Starfleet vessel firing upon them? Did the forcefields fail to achieve their goal? Did that starship detect alien lifesigns and chose to attack?
Jeven shook his head. He was on a rabbit trail with no where near the evidence he needed to come to a solid conclusion. He wasn’t sure such a goal would accomplish anything for them except appease their curiosity. Wouldn’t be such a bad thing though.
Alyssa emerged once more, and made directly for Eden. He kept his eye on them for more “evidence.”
